If you love to take your dog to unusual places, then Okel Tor Mine is the perfect place to escape to. Located near the Cornish village of Calstock and on the tidal reaches of the River Tamar, you can choose from two quirky retreats right in the heart of the Area of Outstanding Beauty. They are perfect for couples seeking a romantic break - or the solo traveller seeking peace and tranquility. You may wish to hire both cottages and visit with family or friends. Both cottages are grade II listed and were originally the former Mine Captain’s office and forge of this Victorian tin and copper mine. They have been sympathetically renovated and furnished and have central heating and log burning stoves to ensure they are warm and cosy. Each cottage sleeps up to two, with a comfortable king-sized bed with quality linens. There's also a sofa bed in the living room.

Set in 16 acres of heath and woodland you'll find plenty to explore with your canine companions - plus a river for them to swim in! Discover the archaeological remains of the Scheduled Ancient Monument and the abundance of flora and fauna. The site also has World Heritage status and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. You can easily walk to the village - 20 minutes via the riverside path, or 10 by following the quiet country lane. There are two dog-friendly pubs in the village.

The National Trust’s Cotehele estate is approximately 40 minutes by foot along the riverbank - there are numerous footpaths and a dog-friendly tea room by the quay. The nearby market towns of Callington and Tavistock are a short drive away.

Okel Tor Mine is a little bit different - historically important and incredibly beautiful. The perfect place to relax, unwind and recharge those batteries with your four legged friends.

Okel Tor Mine is a doggy heaven - there are many wonderful walks and smells and of course the Tamar to swim in. Calstock has two dog-friendly pubs and a café and there’s a dog-friendly tea room at Cotehele Quay. Cats and other species are welcome too - please check the property website for more information.

We are happy to allow dogs. What we do ask is that dogs are never left in the cottages by themselves. We have many facilities aimed at dog and owner.
